Found some old bugs...

Hmmm .. looking for parts for my son's Civic this past week I stumbled across a couple of old bugs in surprisingly good shape... My wife says I have enough already though. This one junk yard had a '63 Beetle, pinkish in color, that didn't have the door pillar rust... no bad spots until you saw the crease in the top of the passenger's rear fender (8"x3"x2" - but a good body man - or a replacement fender would fix it) and then that the engine cover was gone.... and the area directly around the engine opening had surface rust.... car had been on fire. But the headliner inside the car was not all burned up! Somebody caught the fire in time I guess. No engine. The guy's first price was $600... no engine. Wonder what it would bring on ebay?

There was also another early '60s bug that ran - but wasn't totally restored - lacked the fender beading and the interior was still dirty... unrestored. Somebody ran out of steam on a restoration - mediocre two-toned blue and white paint job. Probably pick that one up for under 2 grand. Even two super beetles and a late 70's bus out there... the guy kept wanting me to look at the bus... as if a late '70s bus was all that great... he seemed to know the years of his cars well... so I doubted it was a mid-60s splittey or something.

Just one of those hole-in-the-wall places you can drive to but can't remember its name or what road it was on. Got the civic parts, though....

You might change your tune on that if you hop in a good running type 2 and drive it around a bit! the other good reason to take a look is they usually are chock full of parts as they make good dry storage in a junkyard! Mark Detro Englewood, FL
