Oil comes out of the breather

I installed the engine on the 61 bug (engine is 1600 from a late sixties bus or type 3). I ran out of time for starting it, but I noticed that if the oil cap was on, oil came rushing out of the breather and spewed over the right side tinware. I had not connected the hose from the breather to the airfilter, so no way to know if it went all the way up to it...

Is it remotedly normal? easy to fix if not?

thanks...

will post pictures... spent 11 hours pushing, grinding the bellhousing, grunting, pushing, modifying tinware and cursing today with 4 friends. had a blast :)

Some oil does come out from that opening when you drive the car, but not when it is idling. You should install the hose that goes to the airfilter. Even with the hose on, some amount of oir reaches the airfilter. If this is excesive, or if oil is spitted out when you remove the oil cap and rev the engine in newtral, then check that you installed the metal gasket with the louvers under the generator stand corectly oriented (louvers towards the bottom, with the opening to the right side). This gasket prevents the oil from coming up the oil filler neck.

Good job Eduardo!

Have you remembered to exchange the starter bushing for one that will fit the 12Volt starter? Or are you planning on running a self suported auto stick job?

Is that a Suby WRX STI I spot in the background??

I bribed them with food. Minga is a local native ritual of cooperation. People from Chiloe move their houses complete (not only their contents) when they move. Minga is when they call all their friends to help them with the tasks. Reward is free food and drink...

In this case, pizza and CocaCola Light.

thanks :)

I sent the starter to a local shop for conversion. They built me a 6 volt starter with a 12 volt solenoid and a 12 volt pinnion....

a WRX yes, a STI no... :)
