I don't know what the hubbub is all about: This global warming will cause the southern polar caps to break off and the northern ice to melt so we'll have water plenty - in fact, we'll probably be swimming in it, literally! With a little luck, we'll even have some ice cubes floating in it to put in our antifreeze/vodka cocktail.. :)
There was recently a letter to the editor in our local paper that stated that the ice caps were not melting due to global warming ... that actually is was the exact opposite ... the earth is warming because the ice caps are melting and there's less ice to keep it cool!
the ice caps were not melting due to global warming
the ice caps are melting and there's less ice to keep
Not sure if anyone really knows what's going on:
Nature is too complex of a system to understand and model - there are too many variables to measure and too many permutations to consider (chaos theory comes to mind - a very interesting subject. "Chaos" by Gleick is an excellent read). Who's to say what is happening or will happen? We (all of us - mankind) pretend to know what we're talking about, but that's about where it stops. Nature appears to be beautifully under compensated - I doubt if changes will be quick and we'll see those cats eating corpes any time soon :)
We probably need to get away from fossil fuel, stick radioactive waste in the ground and stop killing hairy spiders in siberia with cow farts. Stopping what we're doing is like stopping a freight train with shaving cream. With the greed present on this planet, I don't see it happening in my lifetime (unless we make conservation profitable, maybe).
Now my head hurts so back to sillyness: what other cocktails can be made with antifreeze :)
Mmmm.. maybe we should see if we can clone them from whatever ancient DNA we can find and stick them on an island someplace.. You know - that would make a good book and movie :)
If you haven't already admitted it,...........then you're fooling yourself. It would be lovely if everyone would be smart enough and honest enough to say " I don't know",...when we don't know. I don't know anything about a lot of stuff, and I know a little about a lot. That makes me a jack-of-al-trades, not a Jack-Off. I am intrigued by people who actually have the capacity to be a craftsman, or a specialist, or an expert in just one thing. I am not sure I have the wherewithal to be so focused. I figure one thing that nature has to offer that will humble a person, is a volcano. Another a hurricane. There's nothing we can do to make these things go away. There's nothing we can do as humans to make them happen. These are a couple of the most powerful things we know of. Man, no matter how many of us occupying space on Earth, cannot produce the polution ( you know, that stuff in the air that'll kill ya if you breathe it in too heavy a concentration), that just a few volcanoes have and will produce. I feel like we humans are not willing to accept that we are not nearly as powerful as we'd like to think we are. But we are mostly willing to accept responsibilty for something we have so little control over. None of my above statements are meant to advocate abuse of resources. They are aimed at making some of us think about things a bit more thoroughly and make statements and decisions with more info. I am ,by no means, the authority on any of this stuff. But I have an opinion based on some pretty obvious, and some not so obvious facts. Take care of the things that are important. But don't spend a lot of time trying to save the ozone layer. It heals itself, and opens itself too...........try looking into it though. There are very differing opinions from all kinds of experts,..........on the ozone.
