Hood Seal

The mexi bug has the cool seal that goes on the lip of the hood. How does the seal work up at the cowling at the windshield? Does it continue all around or whats the story there?

The Mexican style seal stops at the rear corners of the hood just where it starts to curve around toward the windshield, so you'll have to keep that rear portion of the stock seal.

Does anybody know if it's possible to order such seals (also for the engine lid) from any dealer?

The same seal which is used on the front portion of the front lid is used on the rear (except I don't think it has as many drain holes). All three parts should be available from VW dealers if you present them the part numbers:

111 823 731 C Front lid, rear portion 111 823 733 Front lid, front portion 111 827 705 B Rear lid

The front lid seal, rear portion, is essentially the same as the original seal but the thick corner pieces have an extra fitting lug and so the body would need an extra hole to fit it. This was done because, without this, the corner piece end could get caught in the lid as it closed and stick out.
