L Jetronic AFM and ECU conbination ? Flooding Problem?

I have a 76 Type 1 that I'm trying to get to run cleanly. It will run, but the AFM from the original car was dammaged (280-200-006). I aquired a replacement (280-200-012) and while the form factor is the same, as I have learned it's resistance and slope are different. THe Enging I installed in the car is an 1859cc. What ECU/AFM combination should I be looking for to make this beast properly run?

Currently it will run on the built up fuel presure during starting, ONLY if the AFM is NOT attached to the intake? I assume the mismatch of aFM-ECU is causing the flooding issue that happens anytime the AFM is connected.

Any Help would be GREAT.....I'm new to this VW stuff.

Thanks

Robert

I could make some guesses. My personal inclination would be to open the AFM cover and manually operate the vane to see if correct mixture can be produced.

But you're probably better off :-) going here:

The 0 280 200 012 AFM is for a 75/ early (up to 12/31/75 production date) VW bus with a 1.8 [75] or

2.0 [76] engine. It is a 6 pin AFM. How many pins does the 006 have?

The 7th pin in the 018/020 AFM's is temp sensor I. The early buses do not have temp sensor I in the AFM. It is near the throttle plate.

L-jetronic fuel pumps ONLY run while cranking or with the engine running. They do not run for a second or two like the later DigiJet does. The pump runs while cranking from the crank signal going from the starter to the double relay. The pump runs with the engine running from a signal from the AFM when air moves the vane open.

The 006 AFM is also a 6 pin unit, form factor identical to the 012. From what I am finding out this 76 model is an early 76, prior to the temp sensor being added to teh AFM and with the EGR switch included in the Throtle position Switch. DO you happen to know what ECU matches the 012 unit for the 1.8/2.0 bus?

Honestly it does NOT matter!!!!

The 012 6 pin AFM fit 75 buses AND 76 buses up to 12/31/75 build date and vin

2x6 2077 583. The EFI harness changed and the temp sensor I moved to the AFM starting with the 7 pin AFM 0 280 200 018. That AFM started being used 1/01/76 and vin number 2x6 2077 584. BUT both VW and Bosch only made four different ECU's for the whole 1976 model year: Calif models 022-906-021N 1976 Manual Trans

I have a 77 Westy. I have tried every 75-78 ECU in my bus. NONE of them made a difference in how it ran or the emission output. NO difference!!!

Here are all the bay bus ECU's:
