last year for the standard Beetle ?

When I am choosing a donor beetle for a Baja, assuming I can't find one already converted. What is the last year that they made the standard version, as I am hearing the super doesn't make a very good Baja. Thanks. Iowa883

the last year for the standard beetle was 1977,,,,the super was available from

1971-1975 in sedan form, and all convertibles from 71 on were superbeetles...

Weren't they in production side to side with the super for god knows how long? The last ones I have seen personally were manufactured in 1988. 1200cc, torsion bean front, swing axle rear, minimal trim.

The last year imported to the US is probably what you after however ;)

superbeetles...

And I can be sure of it being a super by lifting up the front decklid and seeing if it has shock towers or not correct ? And if it does then it is a super correct ? Or what is the easiest way to tell ? Thanks, Iowa883

Just look under the front end - if you see anti-sway-bars - it's a Super Beetle!

I just look at the shape of the front window!

Peek under the front fender. if you see coil springs, it's a super.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm Std Beetle has a sway bar. And '71/72 Super Beetles had the identical windshield as Std.

OMG that's what it says! - 08 of 1970 to 07 of 1972 Super Beetles will use the same EXACT windshield as any 65 and up std sedan-- I see here that the dash is different! >That's what my Mitchell manual says to look for<

no reason to pop the hood, just look at the front apron, if its flat across bottom and curves inward its a super (you won't even have to stop, just keep on driving). Usually theres also a "grill" directly under the bumper. Other than that astetically, 71-72 will look just like a standard (even the dashboard). 73 and up are even easier to spot because of the curved windshield and more modern dashboard. If you look closely at that picture, you can see a blur of sorts seeming to exit the sway-bar. Another piece of the soul of the car, departing this world. :-D
