original 60 ragtop beetle

One of my new customers has a 60 ragtop beetle that he bought new for $1800 ($1700 cash and $100 trade in on a Rambler) mostly original, has been repainted and someone stole his 36hp engine in 1965 so it had a new 64 engine installed (Long story). Even the floor pans are perfect, exept fot the bolts for the seatbelts.

He brought it in first for a muffer change, I re-used the non-rusted original pee-shooters (wheres that quality gone?),and now for a new steering box. I'm going to have to insist on replacing the original tie-rods at the same time. I'm not sure how much or the original mechanical parts are still there but this gentleman has to be in is late 80's (my bet 92) and I would hate to see anything happen to him or the beetle.

The bearings seem good it runs and drives very well. I'm not sure of the mileage but I'm also betting its 143k

I can't wait to tell him he doesn't need to have it state inspected again.
