OT: but only slightly -- Driveway paint job

In looking at what my eventual paint options are, I came across this site:

Yup -- it isn't a bug but it seems like a clever idea. (wished now I held on to our 72 Scamp, seeing how nice his Dart looks

- couldn't kill that engine.. :)

Posted it since others here might be looking for similar ideas.

Actually Remco I was thinking of doing something similar in the garage using plastic and wood straps to hold it to the ceilings and walls to paint my 70 Bus. I had the same thoughts of using cheap box fans for airflow but I would at least put cheapo house heat/ac unit filters in the intake area to try to keep contaminants out. Thanks for posting that link!! I don't think I every would have found it not being VW related. Glad that someone tried, and posted their results, of something I've been thinking about trying. Too many horror stories about shoddy workmanship at body shops in the area I live in!! If it's not an insurance claim nobody seems to want to touch it.

Feel the same way on body shops: there are good ones, but to spray a car will cost several thousand so this would be a good opportunity to learn to do it myself.

I've used plastic sheets, zip-tied around PVC pipe hung from hooks the ceiling of the garage for some poly spraying of wood cabinets -- it worked well. Of course, spraying poly on cabinets is not a critical application: Always spray high gloss and go over it with fine brass wool so the application of the finish does not need to be absolutely perfect. Poly dries faily evenly even when not ventilated well.

A car would be quite different, I suspect. The space might be too cramped to paint a car in since I have cabinets hanging on the wall, etc so have been looking for a way to do it possibly outside.

That's good idea, to use AC filters. I also didn't like the idea of sucking bugs and debris right in.

Out of us who gets to try it first should put a site up someplace describing it.

Version 2.0 should lay down a sheet of plastic on the ground to avoid that lovely neon green mist on the driveway. Or do it on the lawn so you can just mow the evidence away.
