"Are drunk or something?" Time to lay off on the Nyquil. You were/are wrong. Admit it or continue trying to squirm your way out of it, all the while getting more and more angry with yourself for being stupid and others for pointing it out. It's your choice, son. The correct position is not the idiotic position.
I just answered your question and showed that you were wrong all along and it upsets you because you're too small of a person to admit you were wrong. And that makes me laugh. :-) Ho ho ho!
..............Now you've gone too far. Lives are at stake here.
......Take it back!
I'm getting a laugh out of the whole thing, too. :-) I'm reminded of the phrase "arguing with a fence-post." My son made his sandwich for his school lunch a little while ago and spelled out "I DAD" with mustard on it. It would take a lot to get me upset right now. :-)

I only do that when I need to make sharp turns in heavy traffic, like a U turn without crossing any lanes :)

It is a normal procedure... On Mercedes is more difficult because we can?t use the hands on the parking brake. We have to down shift to allow the engine to look the rear wheels...

Tug like hell & wait for ages for the car to even think about stopping, ram it into a lower gear. next Question
The handbrake gets used every time I park, on all my vehicles. Its what happens over here ! I bet there's even something in the driving test on it. Oh yeah, it also rains a bit, and even freezes from time to time, and i dont see people with stuck drums up & down the street :-)

Usually there is an 'equalizer' that is hooked to the parking brake handle, and the two cables from the rear wheels attach to that. That's how the three cables come into the picture. The equalizer is basically the same thing as the cable-retaining 'plate' that sits over the e-brake handle on the bug.

I disagree with their notion that the emergency brake isn't designed to hold the car. If you can't prevent the car from rolling down a mild grade with the e-brake, then how in the world is it going to stop you in any reasonable distance on a flat surface(or a hill for that matter) if you have an emergency?
I doubt your cables needed to be replaced unless they were frayed. Cables stretch, and that's possibly what has happened here. You said it worked for "a couple weeks". Thus, one of two things has likely happened, the cables stretched, or the rear brakes are not self-adjusting like they are supposed to. I've worked on several cars where the rear self-adjusters stopped working, and I've helped fix other cars where the rear brakes were put together incorrectly, thus preventing the self-adjuster from working.

Ah, you just don't leave 'em parked long enough with the brake on. :)
Exactly !! Dubs are for driving, where possible of course

When I lived by the ocean, we had tourists visiting Martha's Island for a couple weeks, parking their Bugs with the "parking" brake on all the time on the mainland. It was a quick $10 pocket money fix. Back then. Stupid thing. It's flat land. You don't NEED to put on the "parking" brake! 'cept maybe if you are Joey T. or the Shag doin it by the book.
don't be so tender John , i never said i use my parking brake "by the book"...the vw does indeed sit for long periods with it in use, even though my driveway is flat....but for my daily driver ford i use it only on steep grades to keep the pressure off the tranny.....what i do, or what you do as far as the parking brake has nothing to do with the fact that you were spewing bullshit out both sides of your mouth...
