Hi.Does anyone know if Rack&pinion steering can be retro-fitted to a 71 Super?Love the flat shield SBs,don't love worn out ball steering.Experts?Steve

Yes, It can be done,.................hardest parts is finding and grafting a later model front section ( frame/chassis Steering )................the rest is pretty do-able..............A small amount of perspiration on the column and fitting it, ...............not a walk in the park conversion, but I am sure, from my teardown times that it can be done.

If you are having the need , I have a rack from a '75 sitting in my garage.

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't her's. It isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs. -- Oxford University Press, Edpress News

Here's a thread at the SBO forums about converting an early '73 (same suspension as a '71):

i loved my 71 super and it even had an autostick!!!! can't believe the people that like supers catch flack from someone that drives a 77 model bug...which by some standards isn't even a "bug"(too "new"...way too new)

.................My 'new' bug is older than half the people on this news group. It might have had 100,000 miles on it before Kirin was born.

.............But, you're right. Supers have their place in the ACVW world and I wouldn't mind having one someday myself.............so long as it wasn't an autostick..............

I will remember that for as long as I live, thanks Tim. Love ya to pieces, but still want to strangle you. Oh! And I've got maybe another 3 weeks in Geneva and I'm OUTTA THERE!

...................You're probably the only interesting person to live there since I left in '68...........lol
