Replacing Shock Towers on a 69 bug

Can anyone point me to some info on if and how this can be done?

I'd like to be able to replace or repair the slightly rusty...ok a little more than slight...shock towers on my 69 bug.

There are special "repair" plates made just for this. Requires expert welding. IMHO you're better off replacing the whole beam.

Search thru any VW parts supplier catalog for the plates.

I've checked, jcwhitney.com and cip1.com I can't really find anything. My brother in law is journeyman welder so I think he'd be able to do it.

Don't be so lazy. A goggle or yahoo search for vw parts will turn up plenty! You will have to go to the suppliers page and then look for a beam in the listings!

Thanks, I was searching specifically for "shock tower" repairs. Also, the CS rep at CIP had no idea. Thanks.

Two more to people to add to my auto delete list. Thank God for newsgroup filters. You only have to listen to those with something to say. ;-) If you want to verbally abuse someone, that's fine with me, just send the abuse to the abusee! The rest of us don't need to read it.

Well my capabilities are somewhat limited. I try not to do very much thinking it gives me a headache. Then I just have to set down and take a nap to get rid of it.: ' )
