speedometer identification

I recently purchased a speedometer on E-Bay with the intent of converting it to a tachometer...looking at it it appears older than what I'm used to...if some one can identify it better and let me know if it is worth keeping intact for someone or if it is safe to hack-up...Thanks...Steve

range is 0-70 mph ink stamp VW on back

211957023A stamped on back WO,77 stamped on back 2 58 stamped on back ( the 5 is not clear and could be any number) the wire connections on back are screw terminals no gas gage

p.s. it came with a matching 6v clock that is the same size and dial design

thanks..Steve car(remove) snipped-for-privacy@comcast.net

I would guess the "2 58" is the month/year of manufacture, but I think the 1958 speedos went to 80mph so I'm probably wrong.

But then the page I linked to suggests a 0-70 mph speedo was never used to begin with so who knows what you have.

looking at the website, it looks like the '50 style speedo with the clear needle and face style... but the difference is the turn indicator is at the 12:00 position and there's the whole 70 mph thing... Steve

sounds good, you described the speedo perfectly,(brown center with signal between 30/40 ) the clock has a gray center so I would say its not matching (didn't notice color).... The speedo is in fair condition but the mount ears are broken off...could some one really want this thing or am I safe to hack it up to fit my needs?????? thanks for the info .....Steve
