Steering Dampener & Bushing

I am getting vibration in my Type 1 Vert when I get to about 50 mph or so. I elected to replace the steering dampener. Yes, when removed, it was worn.

My problem? How do I get a new steering dampener bushing installed so I can put this whole thing back together? I am hoping this can be done without dismantling the entire steering gear.

Let's face it, I'm not anm expert mechanic by any means. Have I bitten off more than I can chew?

Help.

....................It's been a while but I think I remember breaking it loose by turning it with a pipe wrench and then using a really big channel lock pliers to slowly pull it off while turning it back and forth. Hope this helps.

I use a medium sized C-clamp with appropriately chosen sockets to squeeze the new bushing in there. Lube the new bushing with water and dish detergent first to make it slide in easier. You can also lube the hole in the steering arm.
