steering damper

I am changing my front beam on one of my buggies (the person who originally made this buggy cut the shock towers off for god only knows reasons), my question is what does the steering damper actually do? reading my Haynes mine is obviously beat. Just curious what it does. I assume it is like a shock absorber, but cannot figure how it would make a difference in steering. Thanks Dave

It keeps the vibrations from the road from being transferred up to the steering wheel.

Drive without one for a while and you will see. Don't go too fast, it could get ugly. Without warning, just as you started to think it was safe. Tried it. :D

I recently replaced mine, didn't really realize it was bad, made the car handle and steer like it was off the showroom floor.
