"Street Legal"

what does a vehicle technically need to be "street legal"? Mainly, I have an open rear Baja...do I need a rear cage or bumper to be legal or can I run it open for a few months? What about the front?

simple to determine....speak with a local law enforcement officer...they will know for sure...preferably not while you are driving the "questionable" vehicle.. JT

Depends one where you live.. check your local DMV or call your state patrol dept. they will usually give you heads up on that.

My .02 I would say that you should put on just for safetys sake...plus if some a hole rear ends you..it doesnt tear up your engine..

You are on the net. Your state has a DMV site. The laws are there. Or ask a smart cop. A State Trooper is best, in my experience.

Depends entirely on your local (state) laws.

Usually it means it has to have a windshield, proper insturments, turn signals, license plates front and rear, lights(regular ones since you can't use off-road ones on the street), a proper exhaust system, bumpers...

Check with your state's laws. Thanfully, Bajas are among the easiest to modify to pass inspection for road use. Nothing is impossible with a Bug, afterall. ;)

I live in Michigan and we don't have any emissions testing and only require rear license plates...cool eh....

...I think I will call the state police but the reason I ask is because my birthday is early April and I switch insurance and registration from my truck to my car on my birthday (previously a Trans Am, now a VW) and the car has no bumpers. Also, I have no place other than my apartment parking lot to work on the car. Western Michigan, the weather doesn't get good often until may or june...

....ah well...I can weld > >
