VOLKSWAGON

Yeah, I just saw it spelled that way in HUGE letters on an early 70s Super Beetle. "VOLKSWAGON SUPER BEETLE" in white letters about 5" tall down each side of the car. I wanted to ask the owner if he knew, but he was driving away as I was walking towards him.

Yeah, I know that kinda guy. He's got a huge tatoo on his ass that says "GEENEEUS".

Shaggie, Do you miss your Volkswagen, seems the Jeep has given you quite a bit of trouble. I used to enjoy reading the adventures. Douglas

I miss some of it. I was getting tired of having to work on it all the time to keep it running. I realize that the way I drove it wasn't contributing to its longevity, but still I felt like I needed something more suited for offroading. The Jeep I have now is the first one I've owned and I'm not certain that it is um... "for me" or not. It has given me a fair amount of trouble. I'm not giving up on it yet. If something catastrophic happens to it in the near future then I will definitely been in the market for another offroad vehicle but I'm not sure what I'll go after yet. Dirtbike? Rail? Baja? ATV? Another Jeep? They're all possibilities. I think I'm leaning towards the dirtbike or rail idea, though...

That's how you find all the good deals on vintage VW's around here. Just type in VOLKSWAGON in the local buy-and-sell paper's web site search and you get all kinds of good hits - especially from the local non-VW dealers trying to sell New Beetles.

...a dirtbike is about the only off road vehicle that will not require frequent repairs.....lets face it...off roading is rough. If you are having as much fun as possible, the odds of breakage are high. the downside of teh dirtbike is that you can only take one passenger. and you must sacrifice fun when you have said passenger with you...not to mention that minor miscalculations hurt worse. Of the "practical" vehicles fr teh family man...well I len toward a rail (maybe 4 seater?) as when you DO break it...parts are cheap, locally available, and easy to change. =-) A side benefit is you can go faster offroad.. =-)

On the other hand, the rider might! :) Every time I rode dirt I hurt myself. It's just that much fun. But that was before these new fangled bikes and protective equipment.

Seriously, I liked air-time so much it was so hard to stop riding but eventually gravity and inertia stepped in - or I ran out of gas.

You know I would suggest the rail Not to mention that you are already familiar with a VW based rail. I have had a lot of fun with mine and the rail can go some places that even your Jeep won't go. The weight and center of gravity make a difference, but then again, I don't like mud-bogging in my rail much. That red clay really stinks when you are covered in it all day! I used to live in Holly Springs near you and I know the trails you run. The rail would be a lot of fun there as long as it has not been raining for 2 weeks before you went out. Then again, you might not care if you get that muddy.

While it is no "Bug Adventures", you can peek at my website to see some of the trails I have been on and see what the rail can do. I really need to update that website someday. I am too lazy I guess. I still watch your legend(s) unfold. Keep it up, I really enjoy it.

I like all of those "Powered by Volkswagon", and "The Heartbeat of Germany VOLKSWAGON" stickers. Sheesh, get a Blue's Clue people. If your gonna drive a car, know how to spell it. I also like people that tell me they have a Volkswagen, and I ask; "A Beetle?", and they reply, "No, it's a Bug." .........
