'92 240 sometimes won't idle when HOT

Hello!

My wife's 240 w/120K miles has the following problem... the car has the automatic tranny and runs great otherwise.

Sometimes, not always, when it's very hot, as in when it's been driven for a couple hours, it tries to stall after starting. It actually seems to RUN fine, if you give it gas, but if you take your foot off the pedal it will die or nearly die. In other words, if it's in park or nuetral you can sit there and rev it and it sounds perfect, but it won't idle.

Putting it in gear and driving it cures the problem. Or, simply trying a few more times will sometimes cure it.

I haven't had it hooked up to a doodad yet to check codes in the computer.

Any ideas?

I have a 92 240 wagon (5-sp) that would not idle, unless I was very lucky if I slowed the car to idle range it would stall. Driving anywhere above 1000 rpm is fine.

I had the local mechanic take a look, they cleaned the injection system and de-gummed the trottle components as apparently the gumming was preventing them from adjusting to idle in an timely manner.

The car has run very well since that. Other work was also done, but it was unrelated to that specific prolbem.

Start by cleaning the throttle body and idle motor.
