93' 940 frozen antenna mast....(help)

so, it was around 9 degrees last week, i did about an hour drive with the radio antenna in the up position. once i arrived at my destination, shut the car down, the antenna motor tried to lower the antenna, but to no avail...the ice had froze it in place...i drove home (one hour) and after shutting the car down, did not hear the mast motor running...i also could not manually push the antenna down, it felt "bound" in place...now that the temps are in the 50's...the antenna appears to be stuck in the up position...question is, i know i need to remove unit from trunk...do you think i need to just re position the white plastic "chain" type thing, or "belt" that is attached to the antenna, or what?...do i need to order some parts?...thanx...richard / colorado

If the temps are still above freezing just push the antenna down. If the motor is not frozen pushing the antenna down should cause the mot to turn and the antenna to retract. This takes a little more force than you would expect but it works. Once the mast is freed up, wipe off all the road salt and dust and wipe on a very, very thin film of WD-40. The motor stops after two or three seconds of high mechanical resistance and is electrically disconnected so neither the motor or drive "cable" should be damaged.

the plastic cable came out of the wheel, or gears...i put the radio on and the antenna in the up position...i then re set the plastic cable or toothed chain back down into the motor...i could feel it seat...i then turned off the radio and watched the antenna lower...all seemed fine...i then powered up the radio and the antenna raised all the way...and kept going for aprox 5 seconds...like it expected the antenna to go higher...i could hear the click, click, click...as the gears or motor kept running beyond how much plastic chain it had...so, it threw it out of the wheel or gear, when i powered the radio off, of course the teeth and grear did not bite...so the motor ran, but the antenna did now lower...i may have a piece of the plastic cable brok and lodged still in the motor possibilly? anyone know how much plastic chain i should have on the bottom of my antenna?? i could remove and measure...

if part of the plastic toothed chain that retracts and extends....is broken off, and still in the drive

..is it possible to dis-assemble the electric drive and retreave the remaining broken piece?...

or is the electric motor unit (w/drive inside) trashed, and in need of replacement (along w/new antenna)..??

replacement antenna (plastic "chain").. local volvo dealer > $46 www order > $16
