Adding an external Aplifier to a Volvo SC-805 stereo

I've got a SC-805 stereo and I want to add an external amp to drive a sub-woofer.

On the back of the sc-805 there is a 6-pin mini din socket for a power amp and I know the pin-outs!

My question is that if I plug my amp into this socket to drive a sub-woofer, will it switch off the internal amp in the sc-805, losing sound to the speakers in the car (V40)?

I assume the outputs on this mini-DIN are just straight Line outs.

Many thanks

Mark

No, at least it doesn't in my SC-816, or any of the older 740 radios I've added an amp to.

Mike,

Then how does this mini DIN socket used and how did you connect you AMP?

Thanks

Mark

Well, you know the pin-outs, that's step 1. Find a matching DIN plug at an electronics supply store, make whatever adapter you need to supply the signals to your amp. I just connected my amp to the existing speakers, so I had to disconnect the radio from the wires going to the speakers, by making an adapter from Volvo parts. You will only need to connect the output of your amp to the subwoofer.
