I finally relented and sent the car to the shop to tackle the electrical problems on the 93 940 wagon. In the end I am glad I did. I didn't think I have the time nor patience, nor the ability to diagnose and fix them.
- The speedometer didn't work, and has been for the past one and a half year. I changed the speedometer pickup in the differential and the instrument cluster to no avail.
- The rear lights don't work. Only turn signal does. No brake lights and others. There is no indication on the instrument cluster.
- The shift up light won't go off and the car don't go into overdrive.
Other than that it has been very good to us and I paid very little attention to it over the years except regular fluid changes. The Japanese I owned in the past weren't as reliable I should say.
The mechainc said the issues are somewhat related. It started with one of the rear lights burned and melted the light assembly. I know because I had to replace it. They fixed it in a few hours for $460 and change. Expensive but I think it is worth it.
