I will use aftermarket brake rotors unless...

...someone convinces me otherwise!

This is for my '92 240 w/ 122K. Great car.

Volvo parts (not from the dealer) = $105 per rotor.

Rotors that a pro mechanic tells me that in his direct experience are at least equal and he thinks better, $52 per rotor. He says he would rather use these than factory, since he warranties his work and has seen factory ones go bad pretty quick.

Being poor right now the latter is looking especially good! So talk me out of this if it's really stoopid, please!

Thanks!

I've had good luck with aftermarket rotors, never even occurred to me to go to the dealer for something like that.

I put aftermarket drilled and slotted rotors and racing brake pads on front wheels on my -99 S80 2,9. Half the price of original + much more efficient brakes. Have had them for a year (~35000kms) without problems.

Just use Volvo pads to lessen the chance of brake noise

Jeff, check out FCP Groton. They have genuine Volvo rotors for $59.00 ea and Zimmerman's (very good experience with these rotors) for $30.00. They have other choices as well.

I replaced all my rotors (brake discs) with aftermarket parts. Torqued my lugnuts (wheel nuts) as per value stamped on bearing caps. They are still going well. I used Mintex pads and handbrake shoes and they stop the car very quickly and under full control with no signs of tendency to warp. Mine worked out at £85 ($130) for all four rotors. Be careful to get the right items as there are some differences in fronts in particular.

Cheers, Peter.
