Noisey 960 with Fault code on 1995 960

Hi all;

I still cannot find what is causing my 960 to give me 314 codes.

Little advice given on this list so far has been fruitless, but I am sure someone out there has dealt with this.

The engine produces a tappet type noise which I think is causing the

314's. I assume the tappets are unadjustable and taking the oil cap off does not indicate any more noise. Listening carefully and I hear the tap coming from the injectors under the Ali flap. I did disconnect each injector in turn but disappointingly that proved fruitless.

Any one know what the cam shaft position sensor does and why it wouild produce a fault?

This may be the way engine management deals with the old pinching probles of too advanced an ingition setting. Remembers those days?

The car run fine as Ive had this problem for 2000 mile now.

The cam shaft position sensor tells the engine control unit where the #1 piston is in relation to the crank shaft. As long as the control unit knows the difference between TDC #1 and TDC #6 then it can fire the plugs and injectors at the proper time. In addition as long as the cam sensor is providing a signal then the control unit knows that the timing belt is still intact and it should allow injection and ignition to occur. If the signal is absent the motor will not run. So what the control unit must be seeing is a low amplitude or erratic signal from the sensor. My guess is that it is either oil soaked or the hall switch is flaky.

If the injectors have been in place for more than 60,000 miles without having had the benefit of fuel system cleaner fluid being used in the fuel tank, then first try adding the recommended amount to a full tank of fuel. If this does not clear the tapping, make sure that an inlket or exhaust gasket is not developing a leak. If that appears to be no help take your car to a Bosch electrical dealer and have the injectors tested and refurbished. Also, if the car has achieved over 60,000 miles without a change, then replace the fuel filter.

Thanks for the Cam sensor info:-

BUT

should refer to ALL objects. ******** A DD (drunk Driver) used your scenario and wrote my 960 off.
