ODBI 314 codes on a 1995 960 - B6304.

Hi;

1995 Volvo 960 3.0L - B6304 engine.

I am getting 314 on A socket 2 which I think is the Cam Shaft Sensor. I clear it and the code returns emmediately. If I do this while the engine is running its gives a cough and splutter as the code is reset, but keeps running.

I have what sounds like a tappet noise, but I suspect this is the feul injectors, those black thingies under the Ali flap.

The car seems alright and I am using it with the fault light "ON".

Any suggestions?

The FAQ indicates this may be a sensor! Is this the ine at the end of the cam cover tight up to the bulk head?

Regards Ian

Hi, Ian. First of all, you should not reset the faultcodes with a running engine!

1) Turn your ignition to position 0. 2) Move the faultcode-wire to the correct output (1 or 2, depends on if you have faultcodes on the transmission or engine). 3) Move the ignition to the third(?) notch, you know where the indicator-lights come on. 4) Read faultcodes, hold the button 3 seconds for each faultcode. -> You have to read all codes, before you can reset them! 5) To reset codes, hold the button for approx. 7 seconds, then let go and wait for a continous light. 6) Once again, press the button and hold it for 7-10 seconds. 7) Try to read faultcodes, to check that it's been reset to 1-1-1.

If you still get the code, the Cam Position Sensor is on the back of the head, on the right side.. It's held there by two bolts, I think they are 10mm.

Good luck!

Sincerely, Olav
