OBD

I am looking for a OBD-interface to connect with my PC. There are many types of OBD available. But i don't know what protocol Volvo uses for my car.

Volvo V40 1.9D (1999) Europe MotorType: D4192T2 EDC: Bosch MSA15.5-5.40

Any ideas?

You're probably out of luck - like I am with my UK 1999 (2000MY) V70 2.5D.

The generic code readers don't seem to work with most Volvo diesel cars made prior to about 2004. It needs the dedicated kit used by Volvo dealers to communicate with earlier cars.

This should work...

Check this out - VOL-FCR (Volvo fault code reader):

------------------------------------------------------------------------- VOL-FCR is a PC based tool for reading and clearing fault codes on Volvo cars. It can read and clear codes from the engine, gearbox, ABS, SRS and many other modules...

Do you have any idea if it is a problem with the hardware or with the software?

The ECU is not covered by the software, I don't know of any other tool that covers that ECU.
