sorry, that was just to grab attention.

I have almost the perfect volvo for me. It's a '89 745 GLE 16-v but it has an Automatic Trans, and I want a five-speed (not 4 + OD) manual. The trans is going and I've had to put her down so I don't wreck it. It seems only to have 3 speeds and I can't afford a rebuild at a shop.

It seems I have three options: fix the AT that I don't want, buy the same year/same engine with the trans I do want, or put the trans I want in this car. Was this engine offered with a manual transmission? Is it possible to convert (i.e. will it fit? Does the bolt pattern match? etc.)?

Also I'm not really thrilled about spending $150 dollars on the manuals I seem to need from Volvo. Is there any way to get the info I need (specs, procedures, etc.) without buying the official books.

Is it better to remove the engine/trans together(I don't know how I would do this is my garage), or drop the trans from under the car(how high do I have to lift it?)?

I love this car and I'm not willing to give up on it, but it hasn't been driven in three weeks and it looks sad parked in my back yard. Please help!

Aubrey, your problem lies with the overdrive unit behind your Autobox. You need to check the level of ATF in the box and it's condition. If more than 30,000 miles old flush the box and change the ATF. Then check that the overdrive wiring and relay are intact and working including the solenoid itself. You may need to take the solenoid off the o/d, clean the ports behind it and replace the solenoid with new O-rings. Most likely you need to change or repair the relay.

I have a Volvo 760 GLE, but the ABS light stays on. (1) When I start it up, no light comes on. (2) When I reverse the breaks seem to make a noise. (3) When I go forward for about 2 Metres The ABS Light comes on and stay's on, the breaks wirk fine.

I have had it into a Volvo Auto Electrician, and he can't find the fault.

What he needs is the speck for this Car were can I down load it.

My vehicle is a Volvo 760 GLE Auto. Right hand Drive. Year 89-90. The ABS System is Bosch 2E, as it only supports the front breaks.It is due it's MOT soon and I need to have the light Fixed or it will FAIL. He has checked everthing Sensors etc and they seem to be working fine.

Can anyone tell me were is the ABS Computer located. We cannot find it antwere.
