S80 Kick Down Problem

Has anyone experienced this before? 1999 S80 Auto 2.9 85k mile.

When I do a kick down, engine accelerates fine to 4.5k revs then suddenly falls back to 2k revs and then starts accelerating again to 4.5k revs etc.... Any ideas would be appreciated.

Was peviously working fine until today.

Maybe the throttle position sensor is not working right. Just a guess.

Paul, I had this EXACT same issue with my 99 S80-T6 when I first bought it. When I floored it the thing would wind out then act like I was pulling my foot off the gas then stomping it again. I called it power surging. It took Volvo forever to figure it out after I got them out of the denial mode. It's been a while since this all happened but if memory serves me right I'm 99.9% sure it came down to a software issue. This would probably explain why it happens in both the 2.9 and my T-6. The problem was fixed. Hope this helps.

Thanks - seems to be OK over the last few days - although engine noise has increased greatly. My guess is that the engine somehow thought it was in third gear and was limiting revs and maximum revs accordingly.

This usually indicates either a dirty throttle module or the throttle module is starting to go bad there is a software upgrade to upgrade the engine control module 30677021
