From year I am unlucky possessor of car Volvo 340 annual set 1989 with gear-box automatic ie. VARIOMATIC. And this is great problem. Something me oneself does not please, does not please me oneself work this of box, I exchanged driving belts and clutch but mechanic which exchanged clutch adjusted some how oddly. Anyway from origin car did not drive well.

Question I - which one is speed maximum Volvo 340, about capacities of engine 1. 4 with box VARIOMATIC, I pressing gas to end obtains 130 km km/h only. and meter scaled is to 200 km km / h. Is it good ???? Question II - acceleration from 0-100 km km . My VARIOMATIC gathers momentum nicely to about 60 km km / h, instead after that dispersing to 100km / h lasts all eternity, I must sharply press gas and to wait and wait wait....... It is too slow for me, Question III - gear lever - in position P at addition of gas car stands, whether this well whether can should move, how should keep oneself car in this of position of lever mainspring ??? Question IV -switching on of backward run R it is necessary hardly to step on the gas, so that touched instead at moving forward will suffice just a little to step on the gas and car already goes, at times even on lightly pulled up suction already oneself moves.is this well? Question V - combustion of fuel. Benzines burns 17 dm of benzine on 100 km !!!! in municipal cycle. I have power supply also on gas. And of gas burns so much self 17dm3 gas/100 km Question VI - engine unequatly works on gas and on benzine, goes out very often during standing up on lights yes if gear-box to finish did not separate

perhaps somebody is user of such car how I and will divide impressions from drive VOLVO Variomatic. can You know perhapssome pages in internet where I would be able to do some reading I searching maitenence e-book for this model with VARIOMATIC

Hi, I will try to answer, though your english looks more difficult to me than your car problems.

You may have forgotten some things: there should be a play, a little room when the car is standing still in the belt dishes. Adjust that correctly, it is important. And the clutch can be adjusted by some small metal plates. Make sure that it doen not slip when you drive! It must catch at app. 1500 rpm if I remember well. These are probably your problems. Fix them or you will "eat" up your clutch again.

The Volvo does not go very fast. But 130 km/h is NOT enough. I think it should do between 140 to 150. But not more, the belts give more friction at high speeds. The meter was also laid out for the 2.0 version.

This is absolutely wrong! The variomatic lets the engine run at its its full revs continously, giving full power all the way. You need a fast car to keep up with it up to 80 km/hr. Above that it gets less. Note: there are some air valves that make it switch back for acceleration, and down for overdrive. Does it make much revs when you accelerate? Or low revs?

In PARK one parks and does not drive. And certainly do not gas when you are in park!!! Eats up your clutch!!!!!!! The drive is blocked, and your clutch gets all the power the engine delivers, eating it up quickly.

Sorry, this English iss too much for me, I can't make any sense of it. Sounds like: "car move is fast too more slow green why" or something like that. You have a problem in reverse? Do you mean that it moves when give step on the gas a little - should do that, and it should do that forward too. Otherwise your clutch is not ok.

They do use a lot, 1 liter on 11 km driving at normal speeds. But you probably have a problem. Do you have the mountain climbing switch on? Behind the handbrake? It should be off, or you are driving in the first gear at max revs!

Try Dutch pages, the car was built over here. It will be difficult to find an e-book. There are Dutch books however, we used to have one, but I think I gave it to my neighbour (a car mechanic).

accelerate I must introduce car on high rpm-s to - more of gas - car goes more quickly. run nicely to speeds 60 km km / h. After that goes if worse. At speeds 80 km km / h i put on gas to end engine strongly works makes a noise outright and when I try a little to take off my leg from gas to make drive "silently" my car not hold speed. All time I must give much of gas. I must put stronghly pedal of gas With One word, according to me something brakes drive this with car, engine well works, at times quatly (at slow rpm-s) for me - gearbox VArio or clutch did not deliver of all power on car back wheels. All time I mus tput gas so that went, strongly to put gas, rpm-s surely above 3000 and even more, perhaps much burns gasoline............

About this already I know, good polish mechanics J which make for me instalation of gas burnt me clutch because put gas too long on position P. Clutch I exchanged.

In position R I must put much of gas to run to back about. 3000 of rpm, instead in position forward lightly I will press gas pedal and already run. At times standing on lights at switched on suction car moves and i must put a brake so that did not go on red light. Yet something. Mechanic so placed me box that I cannot use position N only P. I enclose R and front from position P, when I want this to make from position N, box grates on the car," zgrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy"
