2002 Passat A/C problems

In my 2002 Passat the air conditioner blows cold air and then abruptly blows hot air. After a few minutes it often switches back to cold air. The mechanic serviced the a/c and reported that it is mechanically working fine. He said the the problem appears to be in the electronic controls such as the thermostat. He recommended the car be taken to a VW garage. Are there any part replacements that can be made to correct the problem without taking the car to the VW garage?

you need to have your R134 recharged the cut of is from low pressure. you may have a small leek so use a r134 with a dye and a ultraviolet light to find the leek.

Get the AC system scanned for fault codes if it's electronic.

if it was a Freon low issue then it would switch from cold to hot and back to cold again.

Hmmmm AFAIK Doesn't it depend on how much Freon is in the system. There may be just enough to cause the A/C Compressor to switch on and off if it was less than what was required. Now if it was way too low, or empty then the A/C Compressor should stay off all of the time. It is best to test and not guess!
