Hello all,

Have been offline for a while, sorry if someone else asked this recently - but I doubt it. Two days ago the car started fine, but then shut off violently. In other words, the tach needle plunged instantly to zero. The car restarted with some difficulty, but the tach needle again plummeted to zero but the car didn't shut off because the juice came back in time. Then, it shut off. With the key in the on position and the engine shut off, the tach needle then started jumping around like it was possessed.

Yesterday, the car was fine. Typical VW problem, right? Today, it ran but with bad hesitation. Possible red herring: recently the O2 sensor wires became corroded, and when moisture got in there the car wouldn't run. I recently resoldered it, and it's been running fine for about three weeks. The hesitation today felt like when the O2 sensor was acting up. So as usual, I may have two separate problems. (Also the front pipe is cracked, so the O2 sensor is typically confused for the first few seconds of operation, but this time the hesitation persisted).

Anyone have any insight into any aspect of this mess? The Bentley shows a current track from the coil to the instrument cluster. Bad coil or coil connection? I haven't had a chance to check the resistance or look for that familiar blue salt under any of the connectors.

Thanks Theo

Theo - Check the connectors to and around the digifant unit. Just my $.02 - Chris
