My Golf have been giving me this trouble for some time. While driving the Speedo will drop to 0km/h. The part that worries me is I hear a relay click and a slight drop in power when this happens. I'm concerned that it may be doing harm to my engine. Any ideas on what this relay could be?

Just find out where it gets the speed signal from. It could be as simple as a bad wheel speed sensor. Or is your whole cluster going dead at this time. It the tach. still working & the other gauges?
It is just the speedo that drops and if I give the dash a good whack it sometimes brings it back to life. I'm more concerned about the signal that it feeds back causing that relay to switch and the power drop.
