I just bought a used 99 Jetta 2.0 with auromatic transmission. Today, when I started it, I got what appeared to be a starter noise, but it is coming from the area of the transmission. Any clues what I am hearing. Also, when I turn the ignition off, there is a noise like a turbine winding down.
