Thanks for the replies on the fuel relay problem. I believe it is nailed this time. I enjoy my vintage VWs.
I have another VW,a Rabbit. I put in a new water pump last year after it overheated. I think the engine was damaged when it overheated as after I put the water pump in I got gas-vapor bubbling up through the coolant tank. I think the block cracked.
I took the head of the find the COMPLETE engine rusted solid. I tell you it doesn't take much time to destroy an engine if a crack of water enters the combustion chambers. The polished metal is ready to rust up a hellin.
Anyway. I like the car and is fun to drive and happen to have a 1.8 Liter block I have as a spare. I am going to remove the old York AC compressor and try to bring it more up to date. too.
My question: is it easier to remove the engine in a Rabbit by lowering or by lifting out. I have a cherry picker and will start doing it when it warms up a bit. Like I said the Rabbit is too fun to drive and cool. It would probably make sense to put in a new clutch disk too.
