Body Work on a VW

Anybody have experiences filling holes on a vw? lets say a rust hole half the size of your finger (length wise as well)...

Fixem like an american car? Or does something else work better?

I fixed a series of non-penetrating rusty holes on my 91-jetta's trunk cover last year. I just followed the procedures described in detail in the book "the weekend mechanic's auto body repair guide" from Robert Grossblatt. I used several can's touch-up paint for the original color. the repair was near perfect since most people can't tell the difference.

Just a word of caution, use plastic sheet to cover the surrending area, also use 2'' markup tape instead of 1". I used newspaper, the paint spray sipped through somehow, contributed to the less perfection on the surrending area. You don't need the professional painting spray machine for such job. Actually, I plan to repaint the whole car with 10 cans of such touch-ups in the fall.

I did the last in the large parking lot at work, chose a non-windy day for the job. You still need to wear masks, never ignore that and let the paint getting into your lung. It's not less easy to remove there! Read a book on body work at least twice before planning your job, and write down the sequence of steps. Otherwise, you can mess up very quickly.

enjoy the job and the shinny paint surface. cheers, Ben

10 cans should cover the trunk and a door or two.

Cut the rust out and and rivet away. When painting, take note as to weather your car has a clear coat or not.

that's not true. the trunk took less than two cans, I used the rest to red-paint my mirror case. maybe you're talking about tiny cans?
