the third(top of window) brake light works, on my kids 96 jetta........but the tail light brake lights wont........what do i look for,and what do i need to do,.it just passed inspection, so either it has a problem w/ a short somewhere or the mech. missed it altogether...........

im surprised you didnt mention the fuse first,.but since the third brakelight is on the same fuse it wouldnt matter mentioning it,.anyway as i stated in my post it was just inspected a couple of days ago and i saw them on also a few days ago, before it was inspected when we were checking out the vechicle he just got last weekend,.and in all my years of driving/maintaining vechiles,.i never saw two lightbulbs go out at the same time.unless there is a problem somewhere, ill check the bulbs but i highly doubt it unless they were burnt out by a short somewhere.
seems to be a contact/ connection problem on the brakelight sockets/ bulbs works for now so far..thanks for most of the replies
its been taken care of.had a bad wiring harness on the pass. side, it worked occasionaly till the fix,.works full time now,.my kids happy and im happy,.thanks for the reply anyway,.at least this wasnt a did you check the bulb reply again,.right after i did the fuse check, came the bulb check(duh) maybe some people wouldnt get that far before they posted on here for an answer to their problem!!!!!thanks again
