Brake noise on a 99 1.8T Passat

Jun 15, 2004 5 Replies

Hi group, I have a question. I have a jingling noise coming from the left front brake when I go over a rather good size bump. When the brakes are applied, no noise. I checked the caliper and the float pins, everything looks OK. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Thanks, Weldon

May be the pads fitting loose in calipers. Is the spring clips on the calipers?

This was my first thought, and when I checked them, they appeared to be snug up against the caliper. There are no rattle clips, just the one anti squeal bar across the outside of the caliper. I have the 288mm rotors. Could it be that the pads are loose, and I just can't mimic the jingle by trying to move the pads? The car brakes very well, no change there, just this jingling noise over bumps.

Thanks, Weldon

288mm, is that factory brakes & rotors?

I have OE ATE rotors, with pagid pads.
