Bring Lupo to America

Don't Confuse Canada with the U.S.....both countries have very different buying habits....and Chevy just introduced the Aveo to the U.S. market...

If it's not a photogenic car, it's going to be hard to market it...

I was in Vegas last weekend and saw a VW "Pointer" parked in the Circus Circus parking lot. It had Mexican plates. Is this the Mexican version of the Polo? I thought it was pretty cool. Kind of like a Golf, but not as tall and more roundy.

Perhaps... personally I think they look as good as A4's do in pictures - maybe the Germans aren't as good with camera tricks as the marketing team for our side of the pond either.

I can't wait till they come out, I want one already (I don't even want to cross shop other small cars, I want an A5 Golf, diesel, either with manual trans or the DSG unless it feels too weird, and leather interior (lasts longer... want to buy this car to keep a while).... And I want it to be German built, my friends who have Brazilian Golfs seem to have had more problems with their cars then I ever had with mine... I had major defects (windows, MAF) but that was two times in the shop (and recalls corrected the problems).... They have had issues with noises from the steering/suspension that can't be isolated yet, radio problems (amplifier), window seal problems (isn't cut to length/cracking/pulling back).... not "real" problems with the car... but so many little trips back to the dealer for stupid repairs.

Looking back at the record for the car I drive... I don't see any trips back to the shop for adjustments/little problems, it's all routine maintenance + the recalled stuff.

As far as the Lupo is concerned, it would be great for people like my dad -

I don't think that the Small euro cars pass our safety standards cause we have a helluva lot of LARGE vehicles on the road that would cream the poor little cars... You shoulda see this Hummer flying down Main st here the other day, no concern for the traffic around them... they may have hummers in europe... and SUV's... but I think the "THING" over on this side of the pond is to have a big gas guzzler... and the little eco boxes dont stand a chance against them...

That and the fact that the president gets tons of money from the oil industry... but i might as well not try to vote against him... afterall... how can we get rid of that bush whenn our state governor is a bush :-/

seems like the hard bracket would be better... those shocks are expensive and a one time use only... and I would think the hard mount would last longer...

Nope. This is the Mexican version of the Brazilian "Gol" hatch and "Parati" wagon...which in turn succeeded the car of the same name (in it's home market) that we got as the Fox. While the Gol/Parati/Pointer is smaller than the Golf (as is the Polo), the Gol/Parai/Pointer isn't the same car as the Polo.

When you bumper is hit, the impact has to be cushioned somewhere. If it's not by the bracket or the bumper, the next place it'll go is the body of the car (body panels, structure, etc.). Hard is not better. You want the force to be carefully absorbed in a controlled manner.

They'd have to be HUGE to do that. 15mph may not seem like much, but when you're dealing with stopping a 2700 or more pound car when you hit something, that's a lot of force.

Well, in that case screw the Polo, bring us the Pointer. I used to have a Fox and loved it.

I'd even say it's on the same platform as the old Fox/Voyage/Parati/Gol, or at least a relative of it, since the current Pointer/Gol/Parati retains the longitudinally-mounted engine similar to the Fox.
