CV Joints - Help - Continuation of Gear Box Problems in 98 Golf

Hi,

I had my gearbox repaired 2 weeks ago. Last week my car made a loud bang and a grinding noise. Naturally, took it back to gear repairers. They find no fault in gear box. They now tell me my CV joint broke and thats not part of their repair job, therefore no warranty fix on their work.

Why does a CV joint usually break?? Is there anyway it could be connected with the gear box repair job?? Do golf's have weak cv joints?? WHy would it just break and not wear out / make noise first and that be noticed?

I have argued this point with them and they tell me there's no way that it is connected.

The car has only done 86000 kms, so the CV joints going now doesn't make any sense and i dont do burn outs.

So now i'm up for $250 after spending $4000 2 weeks before hand getting the gearbox repaired.

I'm running out of $$'s.

Help!! Any advice?

my cv joints went after fairly hard driving for 13 years.

For a '98 Golf. Sounds a bit premature for me. If the gaitor had split, then there is no way on earth the gearbox guys would certainly have noticed it and mentioned it. The gearbox had to come out for the repairs, and to do this, both drive-shafts would have to be taken off the output flanges on the 'box. Hard for a split to go unnoticed.....

"inner" just refers to the cv joints at the differntial, and "outer" refers to the cv joints at the wheels.
