My car is 03 passat with ESP (Electronic stability control). Last night I was drving on the right lane of a two lane highway around 70 MPH. my right wheel was slightly off the road and on the dirt of the shoulder. When I try to steering it back, the car just lost control and start to swirl to the left. I had to abruptly turn the steering wheel left and right several times before I can gain control of the car. I am lucky there are no cars around me at that time and the car didn't hit anything.
What caused the car to lose control? Is it caused by the Electronic stability control (when it senses my right tire and left tire have different grip of the road and start braking??). Maybe it's the ESP helped me to gain the control of the car after all. Or because the shoulder is slightly lower than the road and when I tried to get back to the road the tire may bounced and only left tire is on the road at that time? The road is pretty dry. I've driving for 7 years 4 cars and it's the first time i experinced such situation. Scary. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks a lot.
