high revving vw auto

My vw golf 1.8 automatic is having difficulty changing up to 4th gear on the motorway. Revs at 5000 at only 50mph. Just had a service and the engineer had no idea what the problem may be. The lubricant level has been topped up with no luck. The car is a P-reg with 68,000 miles.

Any help is most appreciated.

Year? DTCs? Many causes creating the same symptoms! If you have had this vehicle since new maybe it is still under warranty.
