How to remove the airbag on a New Beetle?

I just bought a New Beetle steering wheel for my Golf 2 (1990). How can i remove the airbag/horn assembly. There a no screws on the backside of the wheel (like a Golf 3 i know) to remove. There are holes. Do i need a special tool? Greetings DerGolf

Since yours may be different that the US version I have instructions for, I can't really say how. I can suggest one thing however. If you don't know how for sure DON'T TRY. Those air bags can do some serious damage if they go off while you are trying to work on them and don't think that disconnecting the battery will make them safe, they are designed to go off even if the battery is disconnected during a crash.

I don't know about the New Beetle, but on my 95 Golf, the airbag on the steering wheel is simply held on with two small torx or socket head bolts inserted through the back of the steering wheel. Be sure to disconnect the battery first and handle the airbag with care (ie, don't drop it).
