My GLI 16V CIS-E is running sluggish, and won't rev over 4500. I suspect the tappet noise and maybe other noises are making the knock sensor back down the timing and whatever else it does to stop pinging. So how can I check this? What happens if I just disconnect the knock sensor
- will it revert to "normal" uncontrolled parameters, or will it go full scale one way or the other? Texas Parts Guy
Don't think that's your problem, but you maybe able unbolt it and see what happens. If you unplug it then the timing will go real conservative.

I read it. And I took it to mean with the sensor removed, it would be stable and I could then time it normally.
