When did VW start using hydraulic lifters in their 8v?
I thought it was 85.. Am I wrong? MiVE

Not to my knowledge, although I've heard rumors that the A1 chassis cars (cabrio, Scirocco) with 8V engines post-84 may still have solid lifters. I've never had a post-84 A1 so I can neither confirm nor deny these allegations. My mom has an '86 Golf and it definitely has hydraulics.
