Mass air flow sensor in 2001 jetta TDI

Hi All,

Been having a problem with the MAF sensor in my 2001 Jetta TDI. This will be the third one replaced in a 6 month span. This is getting a little ridiculous, its come to the point where I don't trust going anywhere far in this car for fear of it crapping out. My wife hates this car and refuses to drive it at all. And considering I paid over 500 dollars the first time it broke, I don't want to pay another 500 bucks. Even though it's still covered under the warranty, that's not going to last forever ( I think its a 12 month warranty). Is there something wrong with these things? I drove this car for the first

60,000 miles before it went out. and now I've gone through 3 of them in a matter of about 6 months. And I don't put near the miles on it that I used to. Could something else be shortening the life of this sensor? These dopes at the VW service don't know why (or they do and won't say just as they did with the power window debacle).

thanks JQP

I find it very odd to go through 3 of them so soon. When I replace them I replace the connector and connectors along with the plug which goes into the MAF. Did they do that? Did they check the snow screen if it has one? And you may be able to get your money back as VW recently extended the warranty for the first owner to 7years/70,000 miles and I think the TDI is included but not sure. When you take it back ask the dealer to "only" let their best tech work on the car.

In fear of having another PR disaster over the MAFs to the extent they just had it with the ignition coils VW has extended the warranty on MAFs to

7 years 70,000 miles. They will also reimburse you for the past out of pocket repairs. You are covered, but I agree VW is heading downhill.

Warranty was extended to 7/70k, and VW will reimburse ALL prior work. Check with VW for a claim form.
