thermostat

Hey all I have a question I haven't had to replace my thermostat on my

84' Jetta GL 1.7 Liter engine yet. I need to know where it is located is it on the top hose on the radiator or the bottom one. And are they fairly simple to replace? Any help is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. Mike

The bottom one just below water pump housing. Easy if you don't have power steering and the bolts come out easy! Always use a new seal with the thermostat too!

BTW a lot of coolant will come out so catch it with a pan and YOU stay safe. Do it with the engine cold please!

Neither dude, its behind your water pump. at least it was in my mark

  1. Someone will correct me if Im wrong. I replaced the pump at the same time as i was told the bolts tend to break anyway and it was fairly cheap......

Buy a Bentley manual is all i can say
