Timing Belt question 98 Jetta TDI

Oct 25, 2004 4 Replies

Does anyone know if the 98 Jetta TDI is an interference engine or not? Also where would I find this type of information?

All TDI's will bend valves if the belt breaks!

My '97 TDI was most definitely of the interference design.

The manual of that year said to replace the timing belt at 60k miles, and mine died at 49,600. I took back all the bad things I had ever said about VW when they gave me a new engine under warantee.
