Trunk button does not work (94 Jetta III)

Jan 11, 2004 0 Replies

I have a bit of a problem in my 94 Jetta GL: Ok, the button I am talking about is the one that is on the trunk (as in insert key on it, turn counterclockwise, and then press it to open). I try to turn the key to unlock it, it does not feel like I am working the locking mechanism. Instead, the key feels like it is pushing hard when going counterclockwise but has no resistance clockwise. Even when I do reach the position that i would then be able to open the trunk by pressing that button in, it does not open. So, right now I have to use the button in front of the driver's seat to unlock the trunk. What could be causing this problem?
