Read in a recent issue of a automotive magazine that VW intends to build a beetle based on the current Golf platform. That is, small and economical. Are they going back to the beetle's original intent?

Well the current New Beetle is built on the same platform as the Golf and Jetta (the A4) I have seen some speculation for a New - New Beetle built on a smaller platform. Estimated 2010 or 2011 if it makes it to North America. If they make it in a diesel version I would have to consider it for my next car.

Have you considered the new VW Jetta TDI for 09? should be arriving any day.
