I am replacing the plastic water outlet on the motor. I have removed the sensors and replaced the o-rings. I removed the green metal retainer clips and now I am finding it difficult to put those clips back. Do you just put the sensor in and pound the clips in? I wanted some input before i damaged anything. I mean i know vw is famous for special tools is one required to put back. If this is a simple question with a simple answer i am sorry but I would like some input before proceeding. Thank you.

Usually things go together easy. Those clips push on by hand. Is that a new plastic coolant pipe? Seal on the sensor and then the sensor is installed in the pipe. Did you put a little coolant on the seal and make sure that there is only one seal per sensor? Look in the holes too! later, dave
I have a 92 jetta and replaced the entire flange after I used the old one with new o rings it still leaked, the plastic housing was worn due to the heat on the engine. My local vw shop sold me the entire flange including the green clips and o rings for about ten bucks. The green clips only slide in with the sensor in place. It is very important that the wire connector that hooks up to the blue sensor is securely and tightly connected or else your car won't start or it will run like crap and cause weird reving.
