04 Avalnche Sppedometer issue

Don't know if this is a common GM truck problem or not....I've got a 2004 Z71 Avalanche, and it's issue is the sppedometer basically dies after 1.5 to

2.5 hours of any kind of continuous driving. The odometer still works fine when the speedometer quits, as do all the other gauges. At around the 2 hour mark, the speedo becomes "jerky" when moving up in the range and then it dies. A quick shutoff does nothing to fix it. Let it sit for 15min to an hour and all is well again for a while. Very frustrating.....any ideas? I thought maybe the speed sensor in the transmission but the odometer still works while the speedo is dead...is this likely? Or is likley the speedmeter itself?

I think I would fight for that one. Looks like there is a known problem Just my $0.02 Frank

I think I'll take it up with the local dealer....and hope they'll be reasonable. Don't suppose there's a GM TSB on this one ?

Warranty?

My 2004 Silverado did the same thing @ 41,000 miles. The problem lies in the stepper motor in the cluster. The dealership wanted 350 bucks to repair and replace? There are other places that will do it for a

1/3 or that price with a one year warranty on the repair. There is no technical bulletin on this problem yet, but with as many people that have had this problem, it seems the Generous Motors would back the product up. I started writing letters after I got a ticket because of the problem. Good Luck.
