DTC = P0440 would like advice!

2000 Silverado 5.3L with 115K

The check engine light came on this morning, it has two codes stored.

1) P0440 EVAP Control System.

2) P0443 Fuel Level Sensor voltage to high. - This code has been present for over a year but does not cause the "Check Engine Light" to come on. The sending unit reads "Empty" when the tank is full and then will work correctly after about 1/4 of the fuel is used.

Is it common for any part of this system to fail? The fuel cap was tight.

Weather or not your cap was tight isnt always the issue...Is you cap sealing is the question... Almost everyday I see this code...Cracked canisters evap lines not sealing ,feul caps not sealing or not even on ...The easiest way to fd out if you have a real leak is to run a nitrogen test on the evap system....Then run a smoke test to find the leak...Also Ive seen rats eat the wires under the underhood fuse box cause this code...You fuel level meter is shot no fix just replace it...That is a common thing also...If you dont want to pay to have someone run the test do this....Check the wires under the underhood fuse box...Check the lines for your EVAP system..And have your gas cap tested they will do that at Auto Zone...Then clear the code and wait for it to come back....If it does then you know you have a problem....
